The USA is the most sought-after study destination in the world. More international students study in the USA than in any other country, and for good reason. While many of the world’s top institutions reside in the US, there are also more than 4,000 other world-class universities offering a top-notch education that can lead to career success. The US remains the source of most of the world’s ground-breaking developments in technology, business, arts, and beyond. Some of the reasons students choose the US are:

  • Quality education and unique curriculum.
  • Diversity in age, race, religion and country of origin.
  • US degrees have an excellent international reputation.
  • Bright employment prospects for international students.

Bangladeshi students pursuing MS in US

The number of international students studying in US has increased considerably over the past few years. With 3540 Bangladeshi students appearing for GRE in 2016, the number of Bangladeshi students pursuing MS has increased drastically. The US embassy in Dhaka says it has found a record growth of Bangladeshi students studying in US universities in the year 2016. Bangladesh is the third largest sender of students to the US among South and Central Asian countries — behind India with 132,888, and Nepal with 8,158.

To pursue masters in US you should follow an application timeline and start about 18 months before you wish to study abroad. Most schools require qualifications comparable to a U.S. Bachelor’s (Honours) degree (Four Year Degree Program). That means a minimum of 16 years of formal education is required. Many US universities accepting international students from countries such as Bangladesh, need the official status of your school and need to verify the authenticity of your credentials. For doing so, you need to submit your transcripts to a qualified credential evaluator who will examine your credentials and make an interpretation into your host country’s curriculum for review. Here is a detailed overview of the university application process.

At times getting a student visa to the US is a concern for the international students. But with the current increase in the number of international students pursuing masters in USA, the visa process has become relatively streamlined and simple.

Scholarships

It is little secret that the US is one of the most expensive nations in which to pursue higher education. But don't let that put you off, as there are hundreds of opportunities to gain funding for your studies. While the education in USA seems prohibitively costly at first glance, the good news is that there is decent possibility of funding if you can get into a reputed grad school (depends on other factors too). Universities and Professors in USA are funded by government and other agencies that invest in research; these funds are, in turn, used to support research students. There are a number of scholarships that are available for international students. Scholarships may be need based or merit based. Some scholarships are provided by the government while some are provided by non-government organisations.  Here are few scholarships for Nigerian students who want to pursue masters in US.
