Graduate Virtual Fair 2018
Hi guys. Hope you all are doing well.. I had a pretty decent response to the last post. But again I had a lot of questions on how to choose universities and how many should one apply to. So I thought I'll talk about this today. I don't know about you guys but I for one had a really difficult time choosing the number of universities that I should apply. Some say 5, some say 15.. The number is absolutely the person's choice. The manner in which you choose these is a very important factor of an admit.
On an average, most of the students apply for 9 to 10 universities. This is a good number because of the following reasons:
1. You have a better chance of admit.
2. You spend a pretty reasonable amount of money in application and documentation.
So how do we go about choosing these universities. We start with google. Look at the ranking of different universities across US for your choice of major. If we are applying to 10 universities, apply to no more than 4 ambitious universities. Ambitious universities are those universities where you are a 99.9% sure that you will get a reject even if the admission guy is highly drunk. These are basically for personal satisfaction. Of the remaining apply at least to 4 safe universities. These generally absent from the top 25 universities list. Choose at least 4 from this criteria so that you will get at least some admit. If you would like to apply more, then apply for universities where you might have a better possibility to get in than that of ambitious university. These are sometimes known as semi-possible universities.
So this is how most of my fellow students apply to the universities in the US.. Hope you guys found this helpful. Do comment if you like it or if you have a query. If you would like me to talk about something in this manner, please do comment and I'll do as much as possible..
Take care guys.. Ciao
