“There’s a place for you at FAMU,” goes the tagline of Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University in Tallahassee in Florida, which is one of the historically Black Universities (HBU). It was founded with a view to provide admission to African-American students back in the day. Founded in the year 1887, FAMU is one of the largest HBUs in the United States now, where 90% of the students are African-Americans. Despite being an Agricultural and Mechanical college, the University also offers courses in Journalism, Health Management, Law, Pharmacy and allied fields.
The Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University was given the first place for being the best Historically Black College and University by the National Science Foundation, in 2015 and also for its extensive research and development expenditures. In the same year, Forbes Magazine listed FAMU as one of the Best Colleges in the South and also America’s Top Colleges.
Total tuition fee for 30 credits
The MS in Mechanical Engineering at FAMU is a government-designated STEM degree and so international students may be eligible for the 24-month F1 OPT (optional practical training) extension.

Traditional Mechanical Engineering degree or specialization in Sustainable Energy. The department is also a member of the Interdisciplinary Materials Science Program through which students can earn a master’s degree in Material Science.
EML 5060 Analysis in Mechanical Engineering I and two core courses in the student's major area:

Select three graduate-level, letter-graded courses in engineering, mathematics, and/or any science discipline (e.g. computer science, physics, etc.). One of the three courses may include EML 5905 - Directed Individual Study or EML 5910 - Supervised Research. Courses must be selected in consultation with the student's major professor.
EML 5935 – Mechanical Engineering Seminar
Six (6) semester hours: EML 5971 - Thesis.
EML 8976 - Masters Thesis Defense must be taken in the student's final semester.

BS degree in Mechanical Engineering or any engineering discipline, applied biochemistry, chemistry, computer science, materials science, mathematics, applied mathematics, physics and applied physics
Job Prospects and Placements for Mechanical Engineering at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University
All graduate assistants enrolled through Florida State University are required to attend the Program for Instructional Excellence (PIE) Teaching Conference during the fall semester. A score of 550 or higher on the TOEFL exam if they want to enter into teaching.
