North Carolina State University (NCSU) is a public research university started in 1887. It has an enrollment of over 30,000 students, making it the largest university in Carolina by a margin. NCSU is especially well known for programs like ECE, CSE and Computer Networking (which is offered in very few other universities), and this fact coupled with its low tuition fees makes it a dream college for many students. The Computer Networking program is a joint effort between the Departments of Computer Science and Electrical and Computer Engineering, College of Engineering, in collaboration with the College of Management. It is intended for students with Computer Science or Electrical and Computer Engineering undergraduate degrees who wish to pursue careers in operations, services, development, and research in the networking and IT industry. It addresses the needs of the networking industry in North Carolina, and, as such, it is consistent with the land-grant mission of the University. This is an exciting program that offers a wide variety of technical courses in computer networking, and optionally management courses, for a truly unique educational opportunity.
Online Delivery Program
All the online engineering, Computer Science, and Electrical and Computer Engineering courses are administered by the Engineering Online unit within the College of Engineering at North Carolina State University. Visit the Engineering Online (EOL) web site at to see a listing of online courses to be offered each semester and to register for an online course in this program. You cannot register through MyPack Portal for EOL courses. The program is aimed at engineers who want to be leaders in a technical environment.
On Campus Program
Our Master's Degree On Campus Program offers several options: the Master of Science (thesis), the Master of Computer Science (non-thesis, available via either distance learning or on-campus enrollment,) and a Master of Computer Networking (thesis or non-thesis, on campus or via distance learning). The flagship degree is the Ph.D. in Computer Science, which prepares students for leadership positions in academia, industry research labs, and government.
Mathematics: calculus (2 or 3 semesters), probability and statistics (typically at a junior or senior level), and discrete math. A course in linear algebra can also be helpful.Programming and algorithmic thinking: 2 semesters of objected-oriented programming (Java, C++, or the like), and a course in data structures. A course in algorithm analysis / automata theory is worth considering.Computer systems: a course on computer organization, and possibly a course on operating systems.

Three semesters of Calculus, One semester of probability/statistics, Two semesters of an object-oriented language, Data structures, One semester of computer organization and One semester of signals and systems or discrete mathematics.
Job Prospects and Placements for Computer Networking at North Carolina State University, Raleigh
This MSc is available with an optional one year industry placement. The 'with placement' programmes give you additional industrial experience by applying the skills you have learned throughout your studies.This offers you the opportunity to work for one year in a highly professional and stimulating environment. You will be a full time employee in a company earning a salary and will learn new skills that can't be taught at University. During the placement, you will be able to gain further insight into industrial practice that you can take forward into your individual project.We will provide excellent academic and personal support during both your academic and placement periods together with comprehensive careers guidance from our very experienced dedicated Careers and Placements Service.Although the responsibility for finding a placement is with you, our Careers and Placements Service maintains a wide variety of employers who offer placement opportunities and organise special training sessions to help you secure a placement, from job application to the interview. Optional one-to-one consultations are also available.In order to qualify for the placement period you must maintain an overall average pass mark of not less than 60% across all modules studied in semester ‘A’.
