The Northern Arizona University, fondly known as the NAU, is a public research institution located in Flagstaff, Arizona that was founded in 1899. The university is governed by the Arizona Board of Regents and accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. It utilizes a semester-based academic calendar and it offers over 150 bachelors and graduate degree programs. The NAU counts with seven colleges including College of Arts and Letters, College of Education, College of Engineering, Forestry, and Natural Sciences, College of Health and Human Services, College of Social and Behavioral Sciences and the W.A. Franke College of Business. The most popular majors are education, biology, hotel and restaurant management, nursing, and criminology and criminal justice.
