Hi, I have an admit from USC and JHU. Masters in computer science. I am from IIT Bhubaneswar. My profile:

GRE 322
TOEFL 113
CGPA 8.5

My interests are NLP and data science.

I know that JHU is a very good research university, but USC has more job prospects. But USC has a huge class size.

Can someone suggest what to do?

Samhith - USC jobs, contrary to popular belief, are really hard to come by. Or at least that is the pattern this year. Plus every day you live in LA without? a job just adds to expenses. I would suggest JHU. Also odds for assistanship are higher

Samhith - Around 20 people  got internships out of 160 or so admitted ones (source friend at USC) . To provide you some perspective , at UMN , we have 21 internships out of 25 admitted (Indian) CS students

Unfortunately I don't know anyone from JHU to give you exact stats (and I don't like to spread half baked information). So please contact someone who is studying there. All I know is USC sold out big time and with the hiring freeze, it's harder than ever to get jobs from USC

This entire concept of "location benefit" is a myth. Minneapolis is nowhere near Cali, yet 2 of my room mates are going to Cali for Intel, one is going to Si labs in Austin. Only "location advantage" you'll have is  start ups but you will find out that working for a start up won't be appealing at all when everyone around you is going to Amazon/Intel/Google

A lot of companies spread a loooot of misinformation saying "MS in US counseling" etc. The best way to find out is to talk to people who are *currently* studying. There's a guy I know who rejected NCSU and NYU to go to USC and he's regretting it big time now

Yes and *current* employability . Because for example USC used to be really famous for getting students employed but now they've over populated the course

Who said jobs not good at JHU. JHU is as prestigious as USC. It is only thing that u may have to relocate in JHU for internship. All ur luggage u have to take and rent an apt for 3 months. Any way u will be getting 5k $> as internship pay.

Sry don't know.  But for CS in USC itself is more than 300. It is not class size. It is batch size. Class is of around 50 and other places like RIT 25 max.

You may have different class mates for each subject depending on which subject u have chosen. There may be 2nd year students also in ur class for particular subject

@venugopal So the crux of the matter is to do an extensive research on the university's employability ranking and not fall for the brand name ? All I've looked for is appropriate course structures but never really considered placement rates.
