Take around 10 transcripts to be on the safer side... though you don't need that many.

Number of transactions depends on the universities you are applying for.

Few ask while you apply, while others are okay with scanned ones.

It depends on the number of universities you apply plus get an additional transcript for scanning purpose because you have to give the list of universities you are going to apply in your college so that they will give transcripts separately sealed in a cover for each universities, you can send that directly. You must not open that cover. For scanning purpose get an additional transcript

 This is what they told me. 
They would seal the transcripts and stick the Univ name on the cover that's it.
