The University of Kentucky, fondly known as the UK, is a public co-educational university located in Lexington, Kentucky that was founded in 1865. It is one of the state's two land-grant universities and the largest college in the state. It utilizes a semester-based academic calendar and it offers over 200 degrees programs, putting together bachelors, masters and doctorates. The University of Kentucky is located in Lexington, Kentucky 40506, between the S Limestone and the E High Street. Its setting is the city, therefore, it is surrounded by a lot of great stores and restaurants like Phillips Market, Save-A-Lot, Lucky’s Market, Chipotle, Jimmy John’s, Columbia Steak House, Cook Out and others to ensure that the students have a lot to do off-campus as well.
The SHU campus size is 814 acres; the campus has about 100 buildings and it is divided into three sections: north, south and central. The campus is home numerous and beautiful structures, one of them could be the Main Building which is a four-storey administration building with a variety of conference rooms and a visitor center. Another great building is the Patterson Office Tower which is also the tallest building on campus houses faculty offices and conference rooms, including many of the offices of the College of Arts and Sciences. The University of Kentucky is home to 15 libraries, yes, fifteen. The largest one is the William T. Young Library; it serves as a central library for the university's social sciences, humanities and life sciences collections and acts as a federal depository and a public library for the state of Kentucky. It is also worth to mention the Kroger Field, known as Commonwealth Stadium, is the home field for the Kentucky Wildcats football team with a capacity of 61,000.
The residence Halls at the UK are located in the North and Central campus. The north campus residences are close to dining halls and within a short distance to downtown. The options available on north campus include Blazer Hall, Boyd Hall, Holmes Hall, Jewell Hall and Wildcat Coal Lodge. All the options mentioned before offer a two-bedroom, four-bedroom suite with kitchen and private bathroom. On the Central campus there are thirteen options of residences to choose from including Baldwin Hall, Donovan Hall, Haggin Hall, Ingels Hall, Lewis Hall, Lyman T. Johnson Hall, Smith Hall, University Flats, Woodland Glen I, Woodland Glen II, Woodland Glen III, Woodland Glen IV and Woodland Glen V. You can find in these halls of residence, two-bedroom, four-bedroom suites, doubles traditional college living and apartments.
Lexington, Kentucky has an average temperature of 55°F. The warm season is really hot and long, from May to September and the temperature rises over 68°F - 86°F. But even in the hottest month of summer which is July the temperature rarely goes above 92°F. The cold season is usually chilly and wet; the annual low temperature is 46°F and winter lasts from November to February with an average snowfall of 13 inches but the temperature is rarely below 9°F.
The learning experience at UK is great, they offer a lot of opportunities if you look for them and classes are of a good level of difficulty without being impossible but fair enough to make students learn. Students claim that professors are great and helpful, although they claim some new ones need a little more of experience.
The mission of the Office of Student Financial Aid & Scholarships at the UK is to provide financial aid to students who would be unable to attend the University without such assistance. The University offers Scholarships and loans as types of aids. For freshman students, there are four different scholarships to choose from, besides the scholarships awarded by each program or department. For current students, there is the Academic Excellence Scholarship Program which is open to all currently enrolled, full-time undergraduate students on the main campus with a 3.50 or greater GPA; the William C. Parker Diversity Scholarship Program, The Felix E. Martin, Jr. Scholarship, the Kentucky Educational Excellence Scholarship, Hope Scholarship/Lifetime Learning and much more. International students can apply to any of the scholarships mentioned before if they meet the requirements.

The UK has a gender distribution of 54% of female students and 46% male students. The diversity at the campus is about average - the biggest communities around are the American followed by the African American and Hispanic one.
