About Fairleigh Dickinson University

Fairleigh Dickinson University was conceived in the year 1942.The university has two campuses in New Jersey. The first one is located in the suburban region of Florham Campus in Madison, and the Metropolitan Campus is in Teaneck. At the former campus the emphasis is laid on liberal arts. On the other hand, the latter offers a variety of co-op education experiences.
FDU is also the first American university to have international campuses. There are two international campuses at the moment, the first one is located in Banbury, Oxfordshire, England and the other is in Vancouver, British Columbia.
The U.S. News & World Report in its listing of the best colleges in the northern region placed Fairleigh Dickinson University on the position of 83.

Fairleigh Dickinson University’s 266 acre campus is situated in New Jersey.


Infrastructure

The infrastructure in both the campuses is solid and well maintained. They are retrofit with the highest grade technologies and facilities to assist the students in their endeavors. The library at the university is a massive facility which houses over 340,000 printed volumes and the journals are available in print as well as in digital format. In addition to these are the research facilities, archived collection of documents and maps that are made available to the students. Under the school of Undergraduate Studies there are four colleges:

  • Bector College of Arts and Sciences,
  • University College of Arts, Sciences, and Professional Studies,
  • Silberman College of Business, and
  • Petrocelli College of Continuing Studies.
  • The Graduate School offers five programs with facilities of online classrooms.


    Residing Options

    The two main: Metropolitan and Florham campuses offer hosing facilities. Moreover, the latter is classified as primarily a residential campus.
    Florham Campus
    This campus offers dormitories for freshman, along with double and triple occupancy rooms within the halls. Occupancy for a little over than 1500 students is available at this campus. The dorms can be listed as:
    Florence and Hamilton Twombly Halls: These are traditionally styled dormitories used for incoming freshmen.
    The Village: It has suite-style arrangements with common rooms. Rooms have 3-4 rooms.
    Rutherford Hall: It was specifically designed for upperclassmen and has double occupancy dorms with bath-cum-washrooms with each room.
    The Park Avenue Residence Hall: This hall has two dorms with a fully equipped kitchen in the common area.
    Metropolitan Campus
    The Linden Complex: These are suit styled apartments with 5-6 occupancies per apartment.
    Northpoint: It is a three-hundred bed, hotel style hall. Each bedroom has double occupancy, along with shared bathrooms. They have a common living area equipped with all the modern facilities.
    University Court: It has small residences with common living area which has a fully functional kitchen.


    Weather

    Highest temperature to be recorded reached to 95 degrees Fahrenheit. On the other hand, the minimum temperature can fall to about 1.4 degrees Fahrenheit. Moreover, the campus remains well stocked and equipped to deal with any weather condition.


    Faculty and pedagogy

    The student-faculty ratio at FDU is maintained at 15:1. Moreover, nearly 68.1% of the classes are with 20 or less students.
    The following are the most popular courses at the university: Liberal Arts and Science, General Studies, Humanities, Business and related services, Psychology, Health related programs, and Visual and Performing Arts.
    The university has an independent research group which is formally known as PublicMind. This center is responsible for conducting a variety of public opinion polls, conducting variety of researches. This is a leading think-tank whose associations are various non-profits and government agencies.
    FDU also produces two literary journals through the in house press. The press also has been publishing various critical volumes throughout the years.

    The university sports team competes in NCAA Division I, and Division III. The latter is the Florham campus whose team is known as the Devils, and the former is of Metropolitan campus whose team is known as the Knights. This shows that the both the campuses pose ample opportunities for sports enthusiasts.
    The ecosystem of both the university campuses is homogeneous and fertile enough to expand the knowledge base of the students. This is primarily due to the multi-culturalism that pours in each year. It is more important in an individual’s development than is generally understood.
