About

Formed in 1933, Monmouth University is an academy which according to the 2016 edition of Best Colleges got the 36th rank. Here, more than half of the faculty members have PhDs, and due to the university’s small number of student folk, they don’t hire any teaching assistants to take classes.
The university gives priority to experiential education and the students here are expected to engage themselves in learning in foreign universities, staunch experiential coursework, and internships. What separates Monmouth from any other university is their ability to make their students achieve individual goals like completing a practical section of a course of study, internships and various other involvements with the real world by the time they graduate.

Location

Monmouth University is situated in the borough West Long Branch found in the county of Monmouth in the state of New Jersey, United States. The University provides its students with free shuttles to travel to various hotspots like the movies or shopping malls. Other than that, students can commute in their cars and others take cabs or walk by feet.

Infrastructure

Wilson Hall is the highlight of the Monmouth University campus which is the home of some of the classrooms and administrative offices. The Murry and Leonie Guggenheim Memorial Library is included in the National Registrar of Historic Places while the Wilson Hall is known as a National Historic Landmark today. The Lauren K. Woods Theater was earlier a stable and carriage house, and it was officially converted to a library and included in the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.

Residing Options

Freshmen live in the newer residence halls while the sophomores stay in, the older building. The new residence has rooms which are huge and clean while the older ones are small but decent enough to live in. The university also has sponsored off-campus housing and students who stay there live quite comfortably in the University Bluffs Apartment. Also, there is no inconvenience distance wise because the apartments are just a mile away from the campus.
Apart from Bluffs Apartment students get accommodation in various halls and apartments like Redwood Hall, Spruce Hall, Oakwood Hall, Pier Village, Pinewood Hall, Maplewood Hall, Elmwood Hall, Cedar Hall, Garden Apartments, Great Lawn Apartments, etc.
To provide more convenience to its students, Monmouth University goes out of its way to help and assist students who are keen on getting an off campus accommodation. The University website contains a list of as many as 101 apartments which available for being leased out to students. These accommodations are located in excellent and safe localities like Long Branch, Atlantic Highlands, Monmouth Beach, Deal, Ashurst, Ocean Grove, Bradley Beach, Belmar, Allenhurst, West Long Branch, Eatontown, Tinton Falls, etc.

Weather

Both the summers and winters are pleasant in this area, and since the campus is situated next to a beach, you can often watch the waves throughout all the four seasons. During the rainy season, sometimes students face problems since the campus pathways tend to flood a lot. Besides that minor issue, the weather is sunny, beautiful and pleasantly windy.

Faculty and pedagogy

The Monmouth University has a student-faculty ratio of 14:1 and almost 50 percent of its classes have students fewer than 20. The majors who enjoy popularity here are Firefighting and Related Protective Services, Homeland Security, Law Enforcement, Communication, Journalism, Marketing, Business, and Psychology. The teachers here continually encourage and motivate the students to reach their full potential and lead in their respective work places and make significant contributions to the society.

Financial aid

Each year Monmouth University provides its students with different kinds of scholarships, grants, student loans and work-study schemes which may cover the tuition and fees, living expenses, books and other kinds of expenses about the course. Based on the student’s academic performance and his/her family’s financial capabilities, the appropriate scholarship is granted.
Monmouth University appoints both, Graduate Teaching Assistants (GTAs) as well as Graduate Research Assistants (GRAs). Such assistantships are awarded to students maintaining a constant GPA of 3.0 or more. Such student assistants get a waiver of tuition fees as well as are paid a handsome stipend on a monthly basis.

Jobs and placements

The Career Services website has ample information about students’ placements and various events and career fairs are hosted by the university where students and their potential employers can mingle and work out something. The Fall Career Day and Spring Career Day bring in various employers to the campus who are on the lookout for hiring Monmouth students. Besides that there is the Career Services Internship Fair where employers are interested to communicate with students from all the departments.
The Office of Career Services of Monmouth University organizes Annual Career Fairs which is attended by some prospective employers looking to hire some of the best minds in their organization.

Crowd and campus life

Although the majority of the crowd is white, the university is pretty accepting of all kinds of students irrespective their background. The Greek Life is pretty dominant there. • Verdict

Monmouth tries to instill in its student's valuable qualities like an intense sense of citizenship, social obligations, and leadership qualities which prepare the graduates to compete in the big bad world.
Overall, Monmouth University has been rated as a relatively decent university with an excellent team of professors who are knowledgeable as well as helpful. The university has good scope regarding the co-curricular and extracurricular activities which it has to offer its students. The only downside to this university is that some students felt that the tuition fees as well as the overall costs involved while pursuing higher education were on the expensive side.
