The Catholic College of education was established in 1982. In 1991 it was re-established as the Australian Catholic University (ACU). It was created from an amalgamation of four Catholic tertiary institutions in eastern Australia: the Signadou College of education in the ACT; the McAuley college, QLD; the institute of Catholic education, Victoria; and the Catholic College of education Sydney, NSW. Today the university has eight campuses across Sydney (where it has three campuses at Strathfield, North Sydney, and Blacktown), Melbourne, Canberra, Ballarat, Adelaide, and Brisbane. The university has become an online university as well. It also has a campus in Rome now.

Transportation in the city

Students can freely move about the city to complete tasks of their choice as the city is well connected via bus and other public transportation. There are several trains and buses that are known to arrive at Strathfield Station. There is a free ACU shuttle bus running between the campus and the station. There are several walking and bike routes as well quite close to the campus gates.
