Est. 1875Ranked among top 200 universities in US
Tracing its roots to Utah’s rich pioneer heritage and to Brigham Young Academy, the original school was established in 1875. In 1953 President Ernest L. Wilkinson created the new College of Physical and Engineering Science. The new college housed departments from the College of Arts and Sciences and College of Engineering Sciences. The college grew in enrollment and soon departments in the college had their own colleges made.

Provo, where Brigham Young is located, is willing to put itself up against all comers when it comes to scenic beauty, excellent infrastructure, parks and recreation, great arts and entertainment and the other must-have’s a city needs to lure in and keep residents. But then it throws in things like affordable housing, low crime, and excellent health care to sweeten the deal. Since it is home to Brigham Young University, it is more of a college town, where the university is a solid part of the local economy. Outdoor recreation is outstanding, although top ski areas are not as close as in neighboring Park City or Salt Lake City. It is near some of the nation's most popular National Parks, including Bryce Canyon. The city is also home to the Peaks Ice Arena, which served as a venue for the Salt Lake City Winter Olympics in 2002. Provo has been named "Best" in a variety of categories, including place to raise a family. On the other hand, the town is pretty quiet at night and on weekends and younger residents complain that there is no nightlife (there are, apparently, only 3 bars here) and not a good restaurant selection. The first Friday of every month features a gallery stroll. The Provo area has LOTS of cheap entertainment. Dollar theaters, the zoo is $8 for adults and $5 for kids, you can go to pools (indoor and outdoor) with climbing apparatuses IN the pools for $5 for adults and $3 for kids, mini golf, bowling, lazer tag, paintballing, comedy club--all kinds of stuff for really cheap.
The Brigham Young University is located at the base of the Wasatch Mountains and it has a total of 295 buildings. This campus is known because their structures were built in different architectural styles adapted to the time they were created. Moreover, the campus has the tallest building in Provo, Utah; named The Spencer W. Kimball Tower which is used by several programs and departments of the university. The campus is appreciated by the students and all the community since it offers green areas that bring out a peaceful feeling to the place and that are always admirably maintained.
f living the whole college experience is on your list and living on campus is what you are aiming for, you should know that BYU has a different politic when it comes to housing than the rest of the universities. They do some division between students under 19 or older than 19. Accordingly with this politics Graduate students are set in the older category and they have a few options like the Helaman Hall which is located on the west side of the campus and offers rooms and board accommodation; Heritage Halls which is located on the east side of the campus offers an apartment-style living for the students; Wyview Park located in the northwestern corner of campus provides also an apartment style living. The halls require students to buy a meal plan except for the Wyview Park which is not required. Besides these options BYU has a residence for Foreign Language Students (FLSR) located in the northeastern corner of campus, this residence is excellent for International students because you get to share an apartment with students of the same language and makes it easier for the new students to adapt. But if living on campus is not your first option you can always find a residence off campus where you have a wide variety of apartment of different costs to choose from.
Provo is like the rest of northern Utah--cold, snowy winters and hot summers. Utah has a high rate of pollution/smog in the winter. Summers here can be really hot, into the hundreds (Fahrenheit) for a few days, but with low humidity, one can always escape into the shade. The winters, besides going on for 6 months, are bitter cold and often windy with January definitely being the coldest. Spring and fall are very enjoyable. It is not uncommon to have what is known as an "Indian summer." This is when warm temperatures last into October. With the mountains close, this is a great place to live. You can escape in the mountains when it is hot, or you can escape into the mountains during the winter for many different recreational activities.
The Brigham Young University offers a distinguished education in an atmosphere that's filled with principles and ideals of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. BYU is known for offering an excellent education with values and ideals and it stays true to the stereotype. In order to get a scholarship at the Brigham Young University, the students should complete the online scholarship application despite any circumstances, after completing the first step they would be considered for the three possible scholarships which could be academic, private or need-based. International students are eligible for the academic scholarships mentioned before and should complete the process like any other student. Sadly, graduate students are not eligible for financial aid awarded by the BYU office. However, they can receive department and college scholarships depending on the department.
Each year BYU employs thousands of students on campus and help them find off campus projects too. Students should complete the process signing up online for available jobs. Also, the University counts with a Student employment office located at 2024 of the Wilkinson Student Center, the office gives assistance to the University department in finding the qualified student to employ besides assisting students in finding part-time jobs on campus. This office is very helpful because not only helps you find a job but they guide students trough it, providing training and education and checking the student employment history to find a suitable job.
