California State University Channel Islands (whoosh that is a long name, I am going to use its shortform CI from now on.) CI is a 4 year public university that is located near Camarillo California.
CI offers 53 types of Bachelors degrees, 19 teaching credentials, 6 different masters degrees. In 2017 the enrolment was 7034 students.
The Business program has an interdisciplinary approach, which would expose you to a lot of relevant fields and help you develop the awareness of the market, the various professions in your field of choice, and give you the tools to make the right choice for you. They require you to take courses outside the business curriculum, like chemistry, education, fine arts, biology, performing arts. This is great because if you are either starting your own business or being a decision maker in a company in any of these fields you would need a background in these fields in order to understand the nuances and the latest developments in your business line. Aside from the extracurricular courses The program teaches you the foundations of marketing, management, accounting, etc.
*Average tuition fee is only an indicator of the estimate annual cost for MBA/Management courses at CSU CI. CI is between Los Angeles and Santa Barbara. The campus is located about 2 miles from Camarillo city. So let us talk a little bit about Camarillo because it is going to be the main source of your life outside campus. The census of 2010 shows that the city has a population of 65,201. That is quite few.
There are dozens of parks in this city so those of you love the outdoors you are in for a treat. A few noteworthy parks are Adolfo, Arneill Ranch and Birchview. But there are so many parks that you should check them all out. Aside from the park district also hosts the annual Christmas parade so you have something look forward during the festive season.
Now let us talk about other stuff you can do in the city. There is a dirt BMX track, omg! You have no idea how much I wish there was a BMX track near my campus. This is so awesome. There is an equestrian centre, so you can go horse riding as well, a great place for a date. There is a roller hockey rink, fantastic! A great place to exercise and have fun. There is also a hockey rink…. For a small town, this place is packed with fun stuff. There is a skate park to, and a r/c track. So there is quite a lot of fun things to try out.
This region experiences warm and dry summers, with no average monthly temperatures above 71.6°F. Camarillo has a warm-summer Mediterranean climate. So hey pack your lose t shirts and your sun screen.
The highest average temperature is in the month of august and it is 24.9 celsius. The lowest average temperature is in the month of December and it is 5.6 Celsius
Well the university accepts federal and state grants, which is common across all the universities. So I am not going to focus on that because why talk about something that is generally applicable to everyone. We really want to know what makes this university is special.
So they give 400,000 $ in scholarships every year. Now that may seem like a lot but given that the average tuition fees is in the range of 20 grands, it means that there are not more than 20 students who receive these scholarship. So I am not impressed by the amount
So the university has got something pretty amazing called the Dolphin CareerLink. It is part of a much larger program that is called NACElink. It is a network of university career centres and colleges that has over a massive 5 million potential employers. Holy Crap! That is a lot. And by joining the Dolphin CareerLink you get access to all these employers so that is awesome.
The system lists full time, part time, internships and on campus positions. The range of type of employers include government agencies, non profits, businesses, on campus departments and even individuals.
This particular university also goes the extra mile to protect its students from discrimination, harassment. So that is great.
Well the campus life and the fact that this is in los angeles county means there is plenty of opportunity for you to have a vibrant outside college life. The mixed reviews about the quality of professors is worrisome, so that is something I would deeply consider this before choosing your university.
On the other hand the access to dolphin link and its massive database of employers is very valuable and can help you jump start your career. So it is a mixed bag here and I cannot definitively recommend or discourage you from joining this university.
We would love to hear your experience and share it with the community
