Location

The 161 acre campus is located in Chicago, in the state of Illinois, United States. The campus location is perfect for students who want the best of both worlds, including a world-class education and the opportunities of city life. Here you will get the opportunity to work with top companies head quartered in Chicago. Not only that, you will get to explore different restaurants and areas such as China Town, Little Italy, and Little Vietnam. Of course, such a prime location means the presence of various museums and cultural attractions including Broadway shows.


Infrastructure

The infrastructure at CSU is top notch. They are retro fit with modern amenities and yet carry the heritage in an august manner.
The University Library is retrofit with the state of the art automated storage and retrieval system. It is popularly called ROVER (Retrieval Online Via Electronic Robot). The library is well stocked and more publications and journals can be accessed through the online medium.
Chicago State University comprises of the following colleges:

  • College of Graduate and Professional Studies,
  • College of Arts and Sciences;
  • College of Business;
  • College of Education;
  • Honors college,
  • College of Health Sciences; and
  • College of Pharmacy.
  • Each college has a separate building of its own along with classrooms and related facility centers.


    Residing Options

    The campus also houses a 7,000 seat multipurpose hall which is known as the Emil and Patricia Jones Convocation center. Over the years many programs including concerts, conferences, and special city wide events have also taken place in this hall.
    The campus is secured and hardwired with essential services such as that of medical, health, recreation, gymming, sports and athletics.
    The housing capacity on campus is about 330 with a maximum of 19 meals served per week. As per the student’s reviews, it is rather evident that living on campus has its very own advantages and the experience is completely different. The housing facilities are styled on the co-ed patterns. They are well equipped with study lounges, WIFI facilities, laundry room, and computer labs.


    Weather

    The students at CSU get to witness a range of weather conditions. Winters are usually harsh with the temperature dropping 20 degrees below zero. Though, summer remains quite pleasant with bright sunny days. Moreover, the campus is well equipped to handle all sorts of weather scenarios.


    Faculty and pedagogy

    More than half of the classes in CSU have less than 20 students. This enables the classes to be better in terms of discussions and it also helps the distinguished faculty to individually help the students.
    The university has also introduced innovative Graduate and Professional Students Academic Studies Initiatives. It has been created in consonance with the funding provided by the Department of Education. The primary aim of such programs and initiatives is to enhance the educational experience of the students.
    The most fascinating part about the teaching methodology and pedagogy is that they are always designed and developed in consult with the students and other concerned parties. There are meetings and discussions conducted between the students, faculties, and other interested parties for that purpose..


    Financial aid

    The motto of the University has been to enable. They do not deny admissions due to financial constraints.
    Aid is provided to students in the forms of grants, loans, and scholarships. There is also a program under which students can work and study at the same time. For these purposes the students are required to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid each year and also consult with the aid office.
    The students may also opt for private scholarships but it at all times has to be done in consult with the University. The State of Illinois also offers certain scholarships that can be considered.


    Jobs and placements

    CSU has a placement services which caters to these needs. This department works in consonance with the extensive alumni network to provide opportunities to its students.


    Crowd and campus life

    The National Pan-Hellenic Council organizations, all the nice of them have chapters at Chicago State University. These have resulted in the purview of the students expanding and reaching extraordinary levels.
    The University has The Office of Student Activities which is responsible for overseeing the student government, student clubs and organizations.
    The campus offers scope for many recreational and socializing activities. The popular ones are the gaming and movie rooms. The Tempo student led newspaper and the Chicago Broadcast Club are also among the more popular ones there. Most of the initiatives are led and managed by students. Moreover, every day some or the other competition keeps on happening on the campus, a fresher just needs to keep the senses sharp and let the experiences flow inwards.
    The CSU students team is known as: The Chicago Cougars, they are proud members of the Western Athletic Conference for the NCAA’s Division I. The sports team includes both men and women’s basketball, cross-country, golf, tennis, soccer, and both indoor and outdoor track and field.

    Over the years there have been many distinguished individuals who have had the privilege of calling CSU as home. The following are the distinguished few:

  • James A. Banks: Founding director of the Center for Multicultural Education, University of Washington.
  • Bob Jenecyk: Goalie, Chicago Blackhawks and Los Angeles Kings (National Hockey League).
  • Rosalyn Bryant: Competed in the 1976 Summer Olmpics.
  • Marlow H. Colvin: Representative of Illinois State since 2001.
  • Kanye West: Musician.
  • President Gerald Ford: Received an Honorary Doctoral of Law.
  • Willye White: Competed in 5 Olympic Games.
  • Dennis DeYoung, Chuck Panozzo, John Panozzo, and John Curulewski: original members of the band called Styx.

  • Verdict

    Taking the students reviews and opinions in consideration along with the above mentioned detailed description, CSU stands tall and emerges as quite a distinguished place to study. It competes well with other private and public universities. The university is definitely a well-deserved stepping stone for students who wish to explore and achieve fame and glory. Don’t count on the placement support of the campus. But do make most of the low tuition fee here and the great knowledge imparted by the invigorating faculty. As a minority student, you will be well taken care of by the university.
