Founded in 1743, FAU has a rich history. It is a strong research university with an international perspective and one of the largest universities in Germany, with 38,771 students, 261-degree programmes, 4,000 academic staff (including over 579 professors), 199.64 million euros third-party funding, and 500 partnerships with universities all over the world. Teaching at the University is closely linked to research and focuses on training students in both theory and practice to enable them to think critically and work independently. The research itself also strikes the perfect balance between a theoretical approach and practical application. In winter semester 2014/15 around 39,085 students (including 3,556 foreign students) enrolled in the university in 239 fields of study, with about 2/3 studying at the Erlangen campus and the remaining 1/3 at the Nuremberg campus.

Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nurnberg is a public research university in the cities of Erlangen and Nuremberg in Bavaria, Germany. Erlangen German pronunciation is a Middle Franconian city in Bavaria, Germany. It is the seat of the administrative district Erlangen-Hochstadt (former administrative district Erlangen) and with 113,164 inhabitants (as of 30 June 2018) it is the smallest of the eight major cities in Bavaria. Together with Nuremberg, Furth, and Schwabach, Erlangen forms one of the three metropolises in Bavaria. Together with the surrounding area, these cities form the European Metropolitan Region of Nuremberg, one of 11 metropolitan areas in Germany. The cities of Erlangen, Furth, and Nuremberg offer a very good standard of living This is particularly the case during the period before the start of a new semester. Our guest houses provide rooms for guest researchers from both Germany and abroad for the initial period of their stay to allow them to feel at ease right from the start and to concentrate on their research. All apartments are fully furnished and equipped with cooking facilities including pots and pans, crockery and all necessary household appliances. Bed linen and towels are changed and rooms are cleaned every fortnight.
In Nürnberg, the winters are very cold and windy; while the summers are comfortable and partly cloudy. Over the course of the year, the temperature usually varies from 27°F to 77°F and is rarely above 88°F or below 12°F. The warm season extends from May 28 to September 9, with an average daily rise in temperature above 69°F, while the cold season extends from November 16 to March 5, with an average daily drop in temperature below 45°F.

The restaurants there are great, offering good meals at affordable prices. The university supports a whole lot of students activities to make them good in every field. As a matter of fact, there are several student clubs, consisting of cultural and athletic clubs.
