About Laval University

Laval University is one of the most historically important centers for higher studies. In Canada, it is the oldest university and the second oldest in the continent. It was founded in 1663 by Francois de Montmorency-Laval who went on to become the Bishop of New France. When the area was under the French regime the institution was primarily used to train priests.     Location at Laval University

    The university is located in Quebec City in the province of Quebec. Quebec City is one of the biggest cities and most populated cities in Canada. It is situated in the Saint Lawrence River valley close to where it meets the St. Charles River. The geography of the region is mostly low lying and flat. A huge majority of the local residents have use French as their mother tongue. A third of the residents can speak both English and French, however learning French would be highly recommended. In terms of diversity and minorities they make up around 5% of the population. However this number has been steadily increasing. The city conducts an annual festival called the Quebec Winter Carnival, which brings in tourists from all around the world.


    Infrastructure at Laval University

    Sprawled across 1.2 km the university has over 30 buildings which are linked together by 10km of underground walkways. These walkways are regularly used during the winter when temperatures go below freezing point.

    Several buildings were designed by the architect, Joseph Bergeron. Aside from historic monuments dating back the 17th century, the university also has a sports complex known as PEPS. It is one of the largest in Canada boasting an array of different sports. It has two Olympic size pools, an indoor stadium as well as health clinics.


    Residing Options at Laval University

    There are four housing options within the campus. They are connected via underground tunnels and have been tailor made for affordability. A room in a residence generally costs around $333 per month. All of this includes electricity and heating as well as various other amenities such as communal kitchens, Wi-Fi, laundry services etc. Aside from this, students also have the options of staying off campus and the university will guide you through the process.


    Weather at Laval University

    The climate in Quebec City is generally termed as being humid continental causing it to have big changes in temperature throughout the year. This is the reason why, it has four distinct seasons. The average high temperatures in the area are 22-25 C which is comfortable when compared with the Indian sub-continent. The winters however may be out of this comfort zone as it can reach -5 to -8 C with a lot of wind and snow. The coldest temperature ever recorded in Quebec was -36.7 C in January 2015.


    Faculty and pedagogy at Laval University

    The faculty to student ratio is at an extremely good with 12 students per teacher. This means that they have more time to attend to the academic needs of each student. Out of the 2332 faculty there are 554 who hail from countries outside of Canada which is not the best in terms of diversity; however the international faculty has a high ranking in QS University rankings. Combined with the low student faculty ratio, the quality of educations as well as a massive budget for research, this institution might just put you on the right path to success.


    Financial aid at Laval University

    Financial aid is generally given via grants and scholarships. Mastery of the French language will also get you scholarships from an organization called Francophonie. The university offers scholarships of up to well. The downside being that most of the scholarships offered cater to the students wanting to pursue post graduate studies.

    Location at Laval University

    The university is located in Quebec City in the province of Quebec. Quebec City is one of the biggest cities and most populated cities in Canada. It is situated in the Saint Lawrence River valley close to where it meets the St. Charles River. The geography of the region is mostly low lying and flat. A huge majority of the local residents have use French as their mother tongue. A third of the residents can speak both English and French, however learning French would be highly recommended. In terms of diversity and minorities they make up around 5% of the population. However this number has been steadily increasing. The city conducts an annual festival called the Quebec Winter Carnival, which brings in tourists from all around the world.


    Infrastructure at Laval University

    Sprawled across 1.2 km the university has over 30 buildings which are linked together by 10km of underground walkways. These walkways are regularly used during the winter when temperatures go below freezing point.

    Several buildings were designed by the architect, Joseph Bergeron. Aside from historic monuments dating back the 17th century, the university also has a sports complex known as PEPS. It is one of the largest in Canada boasting an array of different sports. It has two Olympic size pools, an indoor stadium as well as health clinics.


    Residing Options at Laval University

    There are four housing options within the campus. They are connected via underground tunnels and have been tailor made for affordability. A room in a residence generally costs around $333 per month. All of this includes electricity and heating as well as various other amenities such as communal kitchens, Wi-Fi, laundry services etc. Aside from this, students also have the options of staying off campus and the university will guide you through the process.


    Weather at Laval University

    The climate in Quebec City is generally termed as being humid continental causing it to have big changes in temperature throughout the year. This is the reason why, it has four distinct seasons. The average high temperatures in the area are 22-25 C which is comfortable when compared with the Indian sub-continent. The winters however may be out of this comfort zone as it can reach -5 to -8 C with a lot of wind and snow. The coldest temperature ever recorded in Quebec was -36.7 C in January 2015.


    Faculty and pedagogy at Laval University

    The faculty to student ratio is at an extremely good with 12 students per teacher. This means that they have more time to attend to the academic needs of each student. Out of the 2332 faculty there are 554 who hail from countries outside of Canada which is not the best in terms of diversity; however the international faculty has a high ranking in QS University rankings. Combined with the low student faculty ratio, the quality of educations as well as a massive budget for research, this institution might just put you on the right path to success.


    Financial aid at Laval University

    Financial aid is generally given via grants and scholarships. Mastery of the French language will also get you scholarships from an organization called Francophonie. The university offers scholarships of up to well. The downside being that most of the scholarships offered cater to the students wanting to pursue post graduate studies.
