Midwestern State University is located in the city of Wichita Falls, Texas. The public liberal arts college is the only university in Texas, which is a member of the Council of Public Liberal Arts Colleges. The college was started in 1922 as Wichita Falls Junior College. After going through several name changes, the college was named Midwestern state University in 1975.

Wichita Falls is located between Oklahoma City and Dallas/Fort Worth. The campus is located in an urban setting. Students can explore parks and museums located in the city. Take a peek into the city’s history by visiting Depot Square, a historic district. Explore biking and hiking trails or take a dip in the Castaway Cove Waterpark. There is no dearth of things to do in the city.

Computer labs are placed all over the campus for student use. The Clark Student Center is a great place for students to relax or get together to study. The MSU bookstore is located within the Student Center for students to buy textbooks or college apparel. The Moffett Library is a great student resource. The Wichita Falls Museum of Art, Greenhouse, Wellness Center, Outdoor Recreation Center, D.L. Ligon Coliseum, Daniel Planetarium, Akin Auditorium are all buildings present on campus fro student use.
Students can choose from residence halls or on campus apartments for housing.
Killingsworth Hall: Mostly for the first-year and sophomore female students, it is the largest residence hall on campus with study lounges, community kitchens and round the clock security.
Pierce Hall: The residence hall for males in first year and sophomore students, the three-story building has a courtyard in the center and numerous amenities inside the residential building.
McCullough Hall: This hall houses first-year students who are a part of the living-learning communities on campus, along with honors students who live on the fourth floor.
Sunwatcher Village: Catering to upperclassmen, the building includes two or four room apartments.
Sundance Court: Includes all modern amenities and two and four bedroom apartments.
The Midwestern State University does not provide assistance on off-campus accommodations. There are furnished apartments available for rent in the vicinity with an average rent of $400. But most of them are available around a 30-minute walk away.
Summers in Wichita Falls are extremely hot. The city experiences a humid subtropical climate and has the hottest weather in most of the United States. High temperatures start form March and can last up to October. Winters tend to get cold but are tolerable, with the lowest temperatures in January. With the September 2015 flood, the city’s lakes are now at full capacity, ending a four-year period of drought that began in 2011 due to an excessively hot summer.
MSU is a relatively large university. Students can pick form about 102 programs. The school offers Associate’s, Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees. At a 75% acceptance rate, the college is relatively easy to get in. The student population largely consists of in-state students with very few international and out of state students. All students submit their application online. The student-faculty ratio is 18:1, with most classes having a strength between 20-30 students.
Midwestern State University is one of the very few colleges, which has an affordable tuition for both in-state and out of state students. About 82% of students receive financial aid when they apply for it.
The University offers its students with the opportunity of becoming Graduate Assistants which is nothing but training provided by the university to the students to become Teaching Assistants. Students who are appointed as Assistants are expected to work for 9 hours for every term for which they get appointed and get paid a fixed stipend.
The Career Management Center is located in the Student Center. Students have access to online job listings. Career counselors are on hand o assist students with their job search. Career fairs are conducted throughout the semester providing opportunities for students to network with major companies. Professional development workshops offer guidance about resume writing, interview techniques, and preparing students for a corporate working environment.
On of the only public liberal arts colleges in Texas, Midwestern State University is a great university for those wanting to focus on the arts. Equal focus is placed on academics and out of class activities with over a hundred student organizations on campus. It is a great college for students who are academically and socially inclined. Only 6% of students are international students, however, so if you are looking at MWSU, this is an important statistic to keep in mind.
