Newark is definitely the most popular city in New Jersey, and for good reason. Located a cool 20 miles from West Manhattan (which means NYC is next door), it is nicknamed the ‘Gateway City’.

NJIT is built over 45 beautiful acres of land in the University Heights area of Newark. The library is well-stocked, with over a million volumes covering anything you may need, and the research laboratories are state of the art

Residing Options

If you want to live on campus, you’re going to be spending about $7000 a year. Many grad students find themselves some off-campus housing, for which you could be shelling out anything between $3000 and $12000 per year, depending on the location you choose, and the number of roommates you can tolerate. The basic rule is, the further you live from campus, the cheaper it gets. Fortunately, transportation isn’t really a problem, so you don’t have to worry about getting late for classes.

Newark, much like New York, experiences pretty cold winters and relatively warm summers. Winters, though, aren’t as bad as other places, because the Atlantic Ocean next door is nice enough to bring some warm air. There’s snowfall too – it starts sometime in the middle of December and goes on for a while.

Jobs and placements

NJIT has got pretty amazing placement stats with 92% student finding job placement within one year of graduation. They offer co-op programs to start your career training right from the first year. NJIT alumni are among the top 10% of high earners for midcareer salaries, according to the Brookings Institution. Some of the top employers include Amazon, Apple, AT&T, Cisco, Cummins, Google, Nomura, Polaris, Verizon etc.
