San José State University (SJSU) is located in the heart of Silicon Valley at the south end of the San Francisco Bay Area. The SJSU campus is conveniently located on 154 acres in downtown San Jose, midway between San Francisco and the Monterey/Carmel area and is easily accessible from area freeways.
While San Jose is a pretty cool place to live in by itself, it’s also helped by the fact that there are a number of equally awesome places to visit if you want to get out, say on a weekend. Oakland, San Francisco and Sacramento are all within a couple of hours driving distance from the university.
Built over 150 acres, the SJSU campus has a nice blend of some nearly-ancient and some very modern buildings. There is a great amount of history behind what the campus looks like today, complete with fires and earthquakes and mass demolition. But the one thing that cannot be doubted is that the infrastructure is excellent, and the facilities are top-notch. From its beginnings as a normal school that trained teachers for the developing frontier, SJSU has matured into a metropolitan university. The campus infrastructure is excellent and the facilities are top-notch. They have a fantastic athletics center near the main campus, and they have a stunning 8-storey library which won the Library of the Year award in 2004. Coming in Spring 2019, SJSU will have a new Recreation & Aquatic Center.
Minutes away from classes and the library, surrounded by recreation and dining facilities, close to public transportation, SJSU’s University Housing is your home away from home!
Well, it’s California. The climate is just like the Mediterranean which, if you’re wondering, means that it’s amazing. However, San Jose has over 300 days of sunshine a year and average temps are 29 degrees Celsius in the summer and 10 degrees Celsius in the winter.
Even though SJSU is in the Silicon Valley, it can sometimes be overshadowed by the other highly prestigious universities in the bay area (like Stanford and UC Berkeley). But what this university can boast about, is the fact that all the professors are highly dedicated and committed, and are more than willing to do anything in their considerable power to help students. Also, at San José State University (SJSU) you’ll get the opportunity to learn from some industry experts and some nationally-recognized professors in preparation for your academic and career goals. SJSU is best known for engineering, although they do offer 145 fields of study and 108 concentrations.
San Jose State University does not offer admission-based scholarships to International students. It does provide an excellent education with an affordable tuition fee. SJSU is one of the “Top 10 Best Value College in California” and #17 “Best Return on Investment in the U.S.”.
However, since it’s a public university, scholarships are possible to obtain, but they’re never easy to come by. You have to maintain rather high academics throughout, plus you need to, well, need the scholarship. What’s much easier to get is a teaching or research-based assistantship.
Companies in Silicon Valley employ more graduates from SJSU than from any other university in the U.S. Their career center is quite brilliant. Most students get placed quite well, and the career center goes out of their way to ensure that the ‘career fairs’ are successful. Explore the Career Center if you would like to learn about other career building services available through SJSU.
The opportunities at San Jose State University are endless, so no matter where you’re from or what your path to success, you will find a place here at San Jose State University. Also, there’s no place like California.
