Shinshu University, abbreviated to Shindai, is a Japanese national University. The University has several campuses namely: Matsumoto, Nagano, Ueda, and Minami – Minowa. The school was founded in 1873 and it was established as a University in 1949, at which time the following institutions were subsumed into it: Nagano Normal School, Nagano Youths Normal School, Matsumoto High School, Matsumoto Medical College, and Nagano Prefectural College of Agriculture and Forestry.

Transportation in the city

Moving around the city is hardly a hassle as one can avail of the public cars and buses that are widely available. Private vehicles are also rented out, making it convenient for students to plan their commute. The bus stop for reaching Shinshu University, Matsumoto Campus is at the Matsumoto Bus Terminal. There is a shuttle bus service between the university and the Matsumoto Station.


Services offered by the university

  • Every campus of Shinshu university has a really good library. While most of these libraries specialize mainly in the subjects taught on that campus, a student from another campus can always request one of these resources to be delivered to his campus. The libraries are also open to the common public. Services such as inquiry, copying, referencing, etc., are accepted. All the reading materials displayed on the open shelves can be borrowed.
  • The university hospital has more than 700 beds and at least 65 clinics. It is not just a General Medical examination and treatment center but is also specialized as a hospital that can conduct advanced clinical and medical research.
  • There is a Research Center for human and environmental sciences, a cooperative Research Center, a satellite venture business laboratory, the Center for Shinshu medical innovation and regional technology, Shinshu advanced science and technology center, and Research Center for higher education, which are all associated institutes and have facilities within Shinshu university.
