The university was founded in 1879 as a matter of fact. It has the highest proportion of foreign students out of universities in Germany, with 20.9% in the summer semester of 2007, and roughly a total enrollment of 5,598 students which does not sound that large number as the university has maintained the quality of students that take up admission here, it’s not that easy to get in this university due to high difficulty of examinations.
German language eligibility:
The courses are in English and the professors have a good knowledge of English, so German is not of that great importance. But, one must have a little knowledge of Germany as it will help you feel involved in the conversations and you wouldn’t feel left out anywhere.
Exams required:
There are no specific exams required to take up admissions in TU Berlin but few courses, specially who has a good traction have kept an entrance exam for admissions so that they could limit the amount of students taking up the admissions and keep a specific quantity of quality students.
*Average tuition fee is only an indicator of the estimate annual cost for Engineering courses at TU Berlin. Course specific tuition fee may vary and it's best to refer to the university's [official website]. It is known as the world city of culture, politics, media and science. Its economy is based on high-tech firms and the service sector, encompassing a diverse range of creative industries, research facilities, media corporations and convention venues and Hitler’s favorite city. Yes! You all must have guessed the name by now, its Berlin, the capital of the Federal Republic of Germany and one of its 16 states. With a population of approximately 3.5 million people, it is the second most populous city proper and the seventh most populous urban area in the European Union whose first documented history dates back to 13th century with reason of a popular trade route which passed this area. Modern Berlin is home to world renowned universities, orchestras, museums, entertainment venues and is host to many sporting events. Its urban setting has made it a sought-after location for international film productions. The city is well known for its festivals, diverse architecture, nightlife, contemporary arts and a high quality of living. Over the last decade Berlin has seen the emergence of a cosmopolitan entrepreneurial scene. These reasons are enough to mature enough the engineer inside you.
The TU Berlin covers a marvelous area of 600,000 m², distributed over various locations in Berlin which is quite spacious considering the fact that is lies within such a populated city and with so less number of students. The main campus is located in the borough of Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf. The seven schools of the university have some 28,200 students enrolled in more than 50 subjects (January, 2009). El Gouna campus: Technische Universität Berlin has established a satellite campus in Egypt to act as a scientific and academic field office. The nonprofit public-private partnership (PPP) aims to offer services provided by Technische Universität Berlin at the campus in El Gouna on the Red Sea. The main attraction of the campus is the new common main library of Technische Universität Berlin and of the Berlin University of the Arts which was opened in 2004 and holds about 2.9 million volumes (2007). The library building was sponsored partially (estimated 10% of the building costs) by Volkswagen and is named officially "University Library of the TU Berlin and UdK (in the Volkswagen building)". The campus has some heritage buildings while on the other hand few buildings are as modern as Tron.
Undoubtedly it is one of the best ‘city’ campus of any university present in Germany and one of the most secured and safe campus too. Including the communal costs circles around 300-700 euros, depending on the area for a shared room. Student dormitories on the other hand are way cheaper, 250 euros including the community costs, but it’s very hard to land one and you definitely have to search for one month before you depart.
Berlin has a Maritime temperate climate where July is the hottest month with an average temperature of 18°C (64°F) and the coldest is January at -1°C (30°F) with the most daily sunshine hours at 11 in June and frosts being common in winter. There being larger temperature differences between seasons than typical for many oceanic climates, such situations may get rough conditions for a new human at such a place. The wettest month is June with an average of 71mm of rain. Spring and autumn are generally chilly to mild. Berlin's built-up area creates a microclimate, with heat stored by the city's buildings. Temperatures can be 4 °C (7 °F) higher in the city than in the surrounding areas.
TU Berlin has quite an amount of faculty, precisely 8,450 out of which 331 professors, 2,666 postgraduate researchers, and 2,145 personnel work in administration, the workshops, the library and the central facilities. In addition there are 2,719 student assistants and 130 trainees as per the census of 2010. Now you must be wondering that the amount of people working at the university are more than the usual enrollment, yes that’s true but that is the kind of concentration the university provides on their students. The university alumni and professor list includes National Academies elections, two National Medal of Science laureates and ten Nobel Prize winners. Well the data and census says it all, but apart from that to clear the usual and simple doubt is that professors know English and have great communication skills in that so interaction won’t be a problem. They are helpful and look forward to help students in the best possible manner.
International students can apply for scholarships at numerous institutions. The extensive DAAD scholarship database for foreign students, graduates and academics offers a wide range of scholarships and additional Information to help them with their application. Let me remind you that the Freie Universität Berlin does not award any grants or scholarships. Students who are not German nationals will obtain grants according to federal legislation (Bundesausbildungsförderungsgesetz/ BAföG) only in exceptional cases. In addition to this the grants are agencies that have a tie-up with the university and not provided by the university itself. If you have been provided a scholarship then you are not allowed to work anywhere during your education period.
Yes, of course! The university does conduct in campus placements. TU Berlin is one of the top notch universities in Germany and has great connections in IT industry throughout the world. With new companies merging in, they are always in a need of employers who have passed out of the renowned university like TU Berlin. The university’s placements help student find the right kind of job for themselves for which they do not have to conduct a counselling program held right before the placements in which they are given an opportunity to understand the kind of work they do and fit themselves in the best company as per their caliber.
TU Berlin is one of the most famous universities in the world.
The university has great technology, modern methods of teaching and amazing faculty, yet it fails to impress in some of its parts such as financial aid to be specific. The university does not give any kind of specific grants to their students, it is the external foundations who provide grants to the needy ones and apart from that if you are provided a grant then the university does not allow you to work outside as a part time. If you have financial problems then spending your days here would be a problem, you’d find difficulty in spending even though it is a cost efficient university. But, if you belong to a well to do family then this is one of the best and the cheapest university you can get into which includes some time for fun as well. Apart from all that the university has a good name and if you wish to take up admissions here you must have good grades and should be prepared for entrance thoroughly.
