The University is located in the coastal city of Corpus Christi in the state of Texas. The university itself is an island near the Gulf of Mexico. It is also conveniently placed between the two major cities such as Houston and Brownsville. Although the university has its own shoreline, there are a number of islands that one can visit making it a great vacationing destination as well.
In terms of transportation the university has a tie up with the local shuttle system which takes students around campus as well as the city.
The campus although small has recreation centers that cater to just about every hobby possible. They have a recreational center for sports as well as a stadium for the team sports that require it. These centers come equipped with all the necessary tools to help you achieve your sporting goals and remain fit.
They also have a health center where students can go to in case of any problems. This is extremely helpful as we do not see too many universities with such infrastructure. They have also recently built a new dining hall that is supposed to be one of the best.
With the expansion of the university and its courses, new buildings have been added on to accommodate the needs of the students and the demands by the courses. There are new, sleek building for technical courses, labs dedicated to each subject and of course a test course. Corpus Christi is one of the six unmanned official aviation test fields in the country, which is a huge honour in itself.
Apart from this, it also has the Bell Library which is the central library for the students as well as the faculty, containing course books and more for every course and subject taught in the colleges.
There are two residential options with Camden Miramar and Momentum village. They offer apartment like rooms or residential halls. They are right near the beach and offer a beautiful view of the sea. However, it comes at a price as the housing there can become pretty expensive even without a meal plan.
Off campus living is also an option for those who can afford it. These apartment style living comes in 2, 3 or 4 bedroom suites and range from $625 to $2100 depending on the amenities that are available. This rent will come under your financial aid if you can afford the same.
The climate in Corpus Christi is humid subtropical and very agreeable to students from the Indian subcontinent. The highest temperatures are reached during hot summers which can go up to 34 degrees. The lowest occurs during the mild and brief winters experienced where the temperature can go down to 8 degrees. Compared to most of the other places in the country this is as close to home for many of the Indian students.
The student to faculty ratio is a healthy 23:1 which allows the teacher to give ample time to the students taught. Compared to other universities however it is slightly higher. Health Professions and other related programs are the most popular majors for most graduates. The teachers hired are competent and have all the necessary qualifications. However ultimately it is up to you to make the most of all the resources there in terms of academics.
60% of the students in Corpus Christi receive financial aid via grants as well as scholarship. The average amount for the scholarships is $6,044 annually. In total the institution awards $ 6,285,366 a year. There are also a variety of different merit based aids that the institution gives out.
While this is given to the students through scholarships, grants and aid, you also get the opportunity to work as a teaching assistant or a research assistant. You will get to learn and get experience before hand as well as get tuition rebates depending on the amount of hours you work.
The University is extremely helpful in aiding the students through placements and career centers. The majority of the alumni have white collar jobs after graduating. Most of them have a salary of $20-50,000 with a sizeable chunk earning above $150,000 annually.
