Transportation in the city

The public transport system in Vancouver is commendable. You can ride a bike or share a car very easily. There is a U-pass for students which gives them unlimited SkyTrain, bus, Seabus and other transportation services within Metro Vancouver. Bus is one of the popular options as the campus cannot directly be reached via SkyTrain or Seabus. There are various maps available to get familiar with the place’s geography, popular spots and bus routes. Vancouver also has a 24/7 taxi service. If students do not have a U-Pass, they may use day passes or single tickets on the bus with exact change that can be purchased where no change is given and dollar bills are not accepted. Transportation here is efficient, smooth and easy!

On campus accomodation at The University of British Columbia, Vancouver

UBC, Vancouver is home to more than 13,000 students in 15 residences. The first-year students live in Place Vanier, Orchard Commons or Totem Park residence. The residents have to purchase a meal plan when staying in these residences. Reservations for accommodation can be made on a first-come, first-served basis. The rest of the present residences are for graduates as well as upper year students.  For upper-year students, Brock Commons- Tallwood House, Exchange, Fraser Hall, Fairview Crescent, Marine Drive, Iona House, Ponderosa Commons, Ritsumeikan- UBC house, Walter Gage and Thunderbird are the choices available. For student families, Acadia Park is an option available. The typical cost for a room along with the meal plan for a new undergraduate student is around approximately $12,000 - $14,500 (7,42,990 INR -  8,97,780 INR) per year. 

There are many choices for living on campus. Still the demand to live on campus usually exceeds the number of available vacancies so students are advised to look for alternate accommodation. Some of the campus housing options are- Carey center which has furnished rooms with private bathrooms and meal plans. St. Andrew’s hall with 93 suites including options of one bedroom, four bedroom, studios and townhouses. Then comes Westpoint, which has luxurious apartments at the heart of UBC. Panhellenic House has furnished apartments with bedrooms and shared living spaces for women. University MarketPlace has rental apartments. Then there’s Axis which is 15 floors high and can be rented by faculty, campus staff and students.

1. Can I apply for admission if I am still in my final year?
Yes students can apply as long as their ongoing program is completed before the start of the UBC program they are applying for. Uploading of the most recent transcript is required during the application process. 

2. Will more than one application have to be submitted if a student wants to apply for more than one program? 
Yes, every program has a separate application and fee. 

3. What is the average annual tuition fee? 
The fees for undergraduates is around $18227 or 11,27,063 INR and for postgraduates is around $23490 or 14,52,545 INR. 

4. When can one contact the program that he/she applied to?
