Since the main campus in Medford/Somerville is only 8 kilometers from Boston, students do not have a hard time as far as transportation is concerned. Also, you will be surrounded by many other universities in the Boston area, which means you have access to lots of people of your own age. Tufts University’s Medford/Somerville campus houses historic sites like Barnum Hall, West Hall, and Goddard Chapel. The new Science and Engineering Complex integrates historic campus buildings with state-of-the-art new construction, offering labs, classrooms, and study spaces to all students. View magnificent views of the Boston city skyline from the rooftop garden of Tisch Library, then enter the library to access indispensable materials to enhance your knowledge and help your grades. Meanwhile the School of the Museum of Fine Arts (SMFA) at Tufts, Tufts Medical School, Tufts School of Dental Medicine, and the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy are all located on the university’s downtown Boston campuses. Art students create in SMFA studio space with the world-famous Boston Museum of Fine Arts next door, while medicine, nutrition, and dental students study in the heart of Boston’s Chinatown. On Tufts’ beautiful rural Grafton campus, students in the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine conduct research in the Tufts Laboratory and Ambulatory Farm Clinic.
Undergraduate students live in on-campus housing in their first and second years as Tufts students. Rooms are assigned based on a lottery system. Many rooms are mid-sized and ultra-modern, and the campus dining halls consistently score well for the quality of the food they serve. Many undergraduate students choose to live off-campus in their final two years at Tufts, and most graduate students live off-campus for their entire Tufts career. That said, there are a limited number of on-campus housing opportunities available for single graduate students. If you have made up your mind to live off-campus, it would be wise to look for roommates and apartments early, as demand can be high.
