The University of Arkansas is a public, co-ed Research University, which was founded in 1871. The university is recognised mostly for its agriculture, law, architecture, business, creative writing, communication and Middle Eastern studies programmes. The university has six other campuses in the state of Arkansas. Carnegie Foundation classified the university as an institution which carries on high research activity. More than 200 academic programs are carried out in the university each year.
The primary administrative building of the institution is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The one feature that is unique to the University of Arkansas is its 5 miles long sidewalk, winding across the campus, which has names of its students inscribed on the entire stretch. Recent names of honorary students, like former US President Bill Clinton and first Director of the FBI, J Edgar Hoover are also included. Vitamin E was co-discovered by an Agricultural Chemistry professor in the University of Arkansas.

The University of Arkansas is located in the northwest corner of the state, in Fayetteville. The university stands atop a hill farm and overlooks the Ozark Mountains. Living on the campus of University of Arkansas provides great opportunities of fun and companionship. There are more than 15 campus communities that provide for triple to quadruple occupancy residential facilities to its students. They comprise of four major residing areas with large rooms. May is the wettest month of the year in Fayetteville. Summers and winters are relatively drier than fall and spring, where it rains mostly in springs.
