The main campus is in Newark, with satellite campuses in Dover, Wilmington, Lewes, and Georgetown. Not the biggest of cities by itself, Newark is helped by the fact that all of Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington DC, New York and the real Newark are within a hundred mile radius of it. Despite the fact that Newark is located roughly halfway between Philadelphia and Baltimore, and is part of densely populated New Castle County, there is a large amount of public parkland such as, to the south is Iron Hill Park, to the west (in Cecil County, Maryland) is Fair Hill Natural Resources Management Area, and to the North is White Clay Creek State Park and White Clay Creek Preserve (in Chester County, Pennsylvania). Also nearby is Middle Run Valley Natural Area, which is part of the New Castle County Park System, as well.
The suburban campus of UDel spreads across about 2,300 acres and is divided into seven sections, one being engineering of course. Many of the buildings and research laboratories are newly constructed and are really sights to see with state-of-the-art equipment as well. Memorial Hall is home to the English department of UDel and also have a number of laboratories such as the Interdisciplinary Science and Engineering Laboratory. Formerly home to the Pencader Complex, North or Laird Campus, has been entirely redesigned and renamed Independence Complex.
The university campus has a numerous residence halls that not only helps you living but also gives you opportunities to learn and engage as you develop as citizens and leaders. Cleveland Avenue and East Main Street fulfill these criteria and therefore are understandably the preferred off-campus areas to live. If you start early enough, it shouldn’t be hard to find yourself a nice place with rent anything between $400 to $1,200 per month.
In Newark, the summers are warm and humid, the winters are very cold, and it is wet and partly cloudy year round. Over the course of the year, the temperature typically varies from 26°F to 86°F and is rarely below 12°F or above 94°F. Though, everyone agrees that it is tremendously unpredictable. Cold, torrential downpours during summer and blizzards during winter aren’t very uncommon. Spring is definitely the best season, when the campus is breathtakingly beautiful.
