The University of Hartford, fondly known as the UHart, is a private coeducational university located in West Hartford, Connecticut that was founded in 1957. The University of Hartford holds the highest levels of accreditation available in the US. The University of Hartford is located at 200 Bloomfield Avenue in West Hartford, Connecticut, close to the Granby Street and the Tower Avenue. Its setting is suburban, but it is surrounded by a lot of great stores and restaurants like Family Dollar , Sammy’s Supermarket, CVS Pharmacy, Subway, Moe’s Southwest Grill, Golden Krust Caribbean Bakery & Grill and others to ensure that the students have a lot to do off-campus as well.
The UHart campus size is 350 acres; the campus has over 20 buildings. One of the principal buildings is the Bates House which is the Office of Admission and Student Financial Assistance and is where the campus tour starts. Another great building is the Beatrice Fox Auerbach Computer and Administration Center which has a modern structure and is home to a multitude of areas related to computing and houses the Office of Technology Services. The Charles A. Dana Hall is a complex that is a powerful statement about the University's commitment to science, health professions, engineering, and technology education and it houses all the technology laboratories and research facilities. The Sports Center is also worth to mention since it showcases the University’s intercollegiate programs and provides recreational resources for the entire campus community; it has about 130,000 square feet of space and provides a home for intercollegiate, intramural, and club sports, fitness and health-related activities and recreation.
The University of Hartford wants students to feel at home and part of the family offering their residences halls located in the middle of campus. The First Year students have two options of housing including the Hawk Hall that offers double rooms with bathroom and the Through D Complexes that offer standard suite-style residences with double rooms with bathroom and study facilities within the suite. The Upper class students have four housing options including Park River, Village Apartments, E and F Complexes and Regents Park where you can find fully furnished apartments and suites. The Graduate students housing option is The Asylum Avenue Campus Community which offers townhouses located in a quiet residential area.

The UHart offers five options for financial assistance including Grants, Scholarships, Loans, Student Employment and the Veterans Program. When it comes to Grants there a variety of them like the Family Grant when another member of the Family is also attending to the university, the Federal Grants, the State Grants, the University Grants and the Alumni Grants. The University participates in three major loan programs: Federal Perkins Loan program, William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan program, and the private/alternative education loan program. The Veteran Program is known as the Yellow Ribbon Program where eligible veterans who are enrolled in an approved major can qualify for tuition benefits. The Scholarships available are academic scholarships, talent scholarship, merit scholarships, Hartford scholarships, transfer scholarships, first robotic scholarships, the CT Governor’s Need Scholarship and external International Student assistance.
Student Employment is a division within the Office of Student Financial Assistance helping Federal Work-Study recipients find jobs to pay for the cost of their education. If students do not qualify for Work-Study, they can always find a job on campus in departments like Dean's Offices, Sports Center, the Lincoln Theater, the University Libraries, the Campus Store and the ARAMARK Food Services. If students don’t want to work on campus, many local employers post part-time and seasonal jobs off-campus on Career Bridge. When it comes to life after graduation, UHart alumni have an early-career salary of $43,000 per year and a mid-career salary around $67,000.
The University of Hartford is a small university with a good education. It offers a nice small campus; however, it makes it easier to find your way around campus. Student’s claim that having a car is a huge advantage and that there is not much to do around campus on weekends.
