In 1831, the Educational environment then known as Leeds School of Medicine was created with the purpose of providing and catering to the needs of the medical institutions which were in existence that time in the city. It wasn't long until the university became broadly recognized as an international center for the study of engineering and textile technology as well as other business related courses.
Today nationally the University of Leeds is said to be ranked between 10th and 14th according to Sunday Times. QS World University Rankings for 2019 ranks the university as the 31st best in Europe and 93rd in the world.
