In 1831, the Educational environment then known as Leeds School of Medicine was created with the purpose of providing and catering to the needs of the medical institutions which were in existence that time in the city. It wasn't long until the university became broadly recognized as an international center for the study of engineering and textile technology as well as other business related courses.

Today nationally the University of Leeds is said to be ranked between 10th and 14th according to Sunday Times. QS World University Rankings for 2019 ranks the university as the 31st best in Europe and 93rd in the world.

This awesome environment of knowledge is located at Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. North of Leeds city is situated the main campus which is a walking distance from the city center. Also within close proximity to the main campus is an area commonly called Headingley. This is a place that is well known to students staying off-campus. The city is lively and features several exciting places where you will like to hang out.


All of its awesome structure sits on 1,230 acres of land, with the main campus which compromises a diverse combination of building structures the Gothic revival, art deco, brutalist and postmodern buildings making the school so uniquely stand out nationally in terms of its buildings styles which were all designed by the renowned Victorian architect Alfred Waterhouse.

The university also set it as a priority to keep transforming its campus based on the state of the art standards, since 2008 investing not less than £300 million.

Also, the university library is known to be one of the largest and most equipped research in the whole of the United Kingdom having not less than 2.78 million different types of books and resources, 26,000 materials in print and electronically stored journals, 850 diverse databases and 6,000 electronic books.

Residing Options

The university provides lodgings in catered or self-catering rooms, chiefly for first-year undergraduates, and for their international students, postgraduates, staff and any undergraduates who find it hard to get space off the campus as long as they submit their applications before the deadline.

The university doesn't only provide its own accommodation; they work hand in hand with private rental markets and external accommodation providers which include providers like Unite and Opal.


The weather at Leeds where the University is located is at its warmest in the month of July while the coolest month is January followed by, November which is the wettest, one should expect heavy rain in this month, while March remains the driest of all months.

According to annual weather statistics, the hottest day in the year is July 25th, on an average, it goes as high 68°F - 54°F, while the coldest day is the 5th of February, with a typical temperature as low as 35°F - 44°F.

Faculty and pedagogy

The university has a solid faculty-student ration comprising of 8,000 administrative staff and 33,300 students. Out of this number of students, about 24,345 are undergraduates while 8,955 are postgraduates. The university is well structured has its several different schools, educational institutes, and centers organized into eight faculties.

Financial aid

The university doesn't only provide the right environment for education but also provides Financial Support for its undergraduate students. Students are allowed to choose how they want to get their support in cash, as a discount on their tuition fees or a discount on their University accommodation fees.

The number of scholarships available at the school is limited, and the scholarships are awarded to the undergraduate through tested-means to students who come from low-income households who unfailingly meet the needed criterion and are on the full-time program.

Jobs and placements

Due to its perfect educational environment and the number of its graduates that are employed in different areas around the world, Leeds is ranked in the 3rd in the UK and 20th in the world for its graduate employability according to QS Graduate Employability Rankings 2016.

Also, the university engages its students through work experience, providing organizations around with awesome opportunities to benefit from the skills and expertise of its students. These opportunities can be of any particular time range, as long as it is suitable with the academic year. The school has an internship program -Leeds Internship Programme which is administered by the school's Careers Centre and offering organizations in their locality opportunities to provide 8-12 weeks paid projects to the schools 1st and 2nd-year undergraduates in the summertime, and the fresh graduates in the winter periods.  

Employers are encouraged to pay the students and graduates in situations where they maybe considered workers or employees.
