The University of Memphis, fondly called UofM is a public research institution that was founded in 1912. It is one of the best Universities in the state considering that it offers a wide variety of majors providing higher education degrees like bachelors, masters, and doctorates and because it has a higher percentage of awarding scholarship than the rest of college in the state, however, it's an extremely selective college. Its academic calendar is semester-based and is the flagship institute of the Tennessee Board of Regents system. The UofM is recognized for offering high-quality education at an affordable price with a very wide program selection; most of the students that have a preference for the Business Administration and Management major apply to this school.

The University of Memphis is located in the Normal Station neighborhood of Memphis in the Southern Avenue, near the Highland strip where student go to hang out with friends and relax a little since there are a variety of coffee shops like C K's coffee shop and Cafe Eclectic Highland; also some restaurants like Moe's Southwest Grill, Subway and Brother Juniper's. The campus area is very secure aside from the East Highland which is not a very safe neighborhood.
The University of Memphis counts with a campus that has an area of 1,160 acres giving the university the third position in the largest college campus in the state, the buildings are surrounded by lots of green space and you could see it maintains the essence of the historic architecture that the campus has had since the beginning. The campus has a total of more than 50 buildings including the student plaza, a memorial field, volleyball and tennis court, recreation center location and a lot of other structures for the students to enjoy.
The University of Memphis offers different residences halls for all the students, undergraduate, graduate and even housing for those students who have families. The option goes from sharing a modern apartment to a traditional dorm room. The campus counts with nine different residence halls, the Carpenter Complex, Centennial Place, LLC-Honors and Scholars Housing, the Park Ave Apartment & Townhouses, the Rawls Hall, Smith Hall, South Hall, Graduate and Student Family Housing and finally Carney Jonhston/Lambuth Campus. However, most of the students choose to live off campus and drive to class since the price is cheaper with an average rent of $550 and more options of apartment/house to move in are available.
Is cloudy in Memphis most of the time, however summers are 4 month long, being July the warmest month of the year with an average temperature that can rise up to 92.1°F. On the other hand winters are chilly and windy, being January the coldest month, reaching a temperature of 31.3°F. As you can see the good side of this weather is that it doesn´t experience extreme temperatures.
The UofM was selected as one of the top workplaces in 2013, the result was based on a survey of its employees that was conducted for The Commercial Appeal by Workplace Dynamics. The best faculties include Business, Management, Marketing, Related Programs and Liberal Arts and Sciences, Multi/Interdisciplinary Studies, Education and Health Professions. Students seem very satisfied with the content they get from class and most of the student agree that the professors put a lot of effort into teaching their classes and in teaching values.
One of the things that get the attention of all the students that are going to the process of applying to universities is how affordable the university can be and all the options of financial aid that they offer. The University gives to a 67% of full-time undergraduate students some kind of financial aid based on the student abilities with the average grant award of $6,165.
The UofM offers different types of financial aid, there is "Federal Pell Grant" which is based on full-time status and hours of enrollment and the "Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant" which is given to early applicants. Also, the state offers a grant program name "Tennessee Student Assistance Corporation" which is awarded upon Pell Grant eligibility, state funding and early submission of the FAFSA.
As a graduate from UofM the major of Leadership and Policies studies seems to have the highest earning rate after one year of graduation along with the Education Specialist major. Despite not be in a top position in the ranking of Universities of the country, you can expect good placements after graduating.
Though UofM is not part of the big leagues of college, is a very decent college that offers a high-quality education with an affordable price, financial aid opportunity, and professors who give their best to make you a great professional in your decided area.
