The University of Northern British Columbia's main campus is situated in Prince George. The campus area of UNBC is 145150 sq feet.  The campus is well known for its avant-garde design and is situated on Cranbrook Hill, overlooking the city of Prince George from the west. When it was finished, the Michael Green Architecture-designed Wood Innovation and Design Centre, the tallest modern all-timber building in the world, served as a venue for research and instruction on the uses of wood. One example of Passive House architecture in a cold environment is the Wood Innovation Research Lab.
