The University of Passau is a public university situated in Passau, Lower Bavaria, Germany. Although founded in the year 1973 its origin dates back to 1622 as Institute of Catholic studies. The University is well known for its modern campus spans along the left bank of the Inn river providing a naturally scenic study environment. The university offers 39 different undergraduate and postgraduate degree programs in four faculties – Law, Business, Economics and Information systems, Arts and Humanities and Computer science and Mathematics. All the faculties are situated on a single campus along a single street facilitating efficient internal communication of students and staff. The IT center building and sports ground are present at the opposite of the main campus. The University of Passau has a Department of Catholic Theology that offers catholic religious education to students enrolled in M.A. program in Caritas science. Transportation in the city

Students can use their campus card as bus pass for Passau’s bus network. The integrated bus pass is valid for all bus services operated by Verkehrsbetriebsgesellschaft Passau (VBP).


Services offered by the university

Library:

Central library is the main library with 5 faculty and institute library system. Nearly 2 million books and 3050 journals are stored in the library. The reading room opens 16 hours a day. 

University creche or day care:

The university has a creche or child care for the children of students and staffs which is usually not found in any other universities of Germany. Students and staffs can bring their toddlers to the campus.


Student life at University of Passau

Sports:

The sports center of the university looks after the recreational activities, physical education and sports research of the institution. The university offers training in nearly 40 different types of sports like football, volleyball, basketball, rowing, martial arts and aerobics. The university has four gymnasiums, a football pitch and race tracks. Indoor sports facilities include two sports halls, an indoor climbing wall and workout space. The university is also famous for its winter sports facilities.

Student clubs and societies:

The student communities are grouped into various societies based on political, religious, recreational, cultural or academic interests. There are nearly 8 student political groups, two drama societies, three university orchestra and two choirs in the University of Passau Campus. There are several NGO groups such as Amnesty International, UNICEF and AIESEC.
