The St.Gallen University , Switzerland has been originally established as a Business academy in 1898. Today it is a center of excellence through its practice-oriented approach, international flair and integrative view of studies. The university is actively engaged in research and applied research which have resulted in the university establishing 41 institutes, research institutes and centers.
The academic program is conducted through 5 schools namely; School of Management, School of Economics and Political science, School of Law, School of Finance, School of Social Sciences and Humanities. There are over 8553 students and 3133 employees. The 5 schools provide an holistic and practical education with the schools of management, economics and and Political Science and Finance actively promoting integrative teaching. The school of Humanities and Social sciences brings together 12 different subject areas from humanities and social sciences and provide a broader academic education, which would supplement the main program of study. There are over 80 full time professors, 60 assistant professors, over 300 lecturers and 300 assistants, plus many visiting professors.
Its place as a leading Business school in Europe is manifested by accreditation with EQUIS and AACSB. Courses are offered at Bachelor’s. Master’s and PhD levels. Professional training as well as character building is integrated in the curriculum. The university is a member of the European Center for Information Systems and the Auto-ID labs network.

The usual study programs are connected with a subject specific school but are taught jointly by faculty members from several schools. The Executive school of management, technology and law has a special role in the hierarchy of the university. The MBA and executive programs are conducted by this school. The Heads of research and other institutes numbering over 41 also work as professors of the university, thus bringing theory and practice together.
The school offers a 11 month full time MBA in English and 2 year part time MBA in English. It is ranked among the Top 5 European business Schools by the Financial Times. The Executive MBAs are aimed at senior level executives wishing to upgrade their academic and career profiles through a professional management raining. The school offers an EMBA in General Management and a Focused EMBA focusing on specific industry or functions. The courses are offered in German or English.
The university pf St. Gallen is located on top of the Rosenberg Hill, overlooking the Alstad of St.Gallen and with a view of the Alpstein mountain. St.Gallen is centrally placed with Zurich 1 hour and Munich 3 hours away by train, and Vienna and Frankfurt 1 hour by plane.
HSG IT provides IT services to the students, employees and visitors. The Resort Informatik, a department of the university, is responsible for these services. The websites PC-Tutors website and HSG Intranet are for students and employees respectively. The HSG operates the HSG shop which displays many merchandise required by he visitors and students alike. The childcare center is another welfare feature for the students at HSG.
The library contains collections on business administration economics and law, and additionally on many subjects including political science to linguistics and literature. There are around 600 000 printed books and journals, 140 000 e-books, DVDs, audio books and CDs numbering around 3200. The library has subscriptions for over 900 printed journals and licenses for over 32 000 e-journals. The books are available in 2 forms; Open stacks and Storage library where books printed prior to 1996 are stored. There are plenty of work and study spaces with facilities for scanning, photocopying and printing. There is free access to internet. Tutorial and other videos of the HSG library are found on YouTube channel.
The cafeteria next to the library offers various refreshments including coffees, teas, sweets, fruits and much more.
The city of St. Gallen is blessed with a relaxed housing market. This enables students to find housing of choice, either a shared flat or an own apartment, there are options to suit every taste and budget. The HSG Housing office would provide any assistance in this regard to students.
The summers are comfortable and wet. The winters are very cold, and it is partly cloudy year round. The temperatures vary between 26°F and 72°F. It rarely goes below 15°F or above 83°F. The period between late June and late August is best for warm weather activities.
The MBA full time course encompasses 3 components; academic curriculum, career services and personal growth experience. In this regard the Management Toolkit aims to develop the full range of skills required in top management through core , integration and elective courses with a concluding project; career development would develop personal competencies that are critical for long term progression; carrier services would clarify the post-MBA carrier path and accelerate towards it ; company interactions would enable to network and learn from a wide range of industry professionals.
The part time MBA taking 24 months for the completion requires 4 days of on campus work per month and additional 1-2 hours of work per day. Most of on campus work are conducted on days between Wednesdays and Saturdays. The basic modular structure and other features are similar to the full time MBA course.
The general EMBA is a part time course taking 18 months for completion. The program is structured into one to two weeks blocks in order for the student to balance both studies and other interests. Five of 7 modules are conducted at St. Gallen with the other 2 either in Los Angeles, Shanghai and Beijing providing deep insights into relevant economies in America and Asia. The course in conducted in English.
The Focused EMBA is the EMBA of Business Engineering enables to expand skills in the field of sustainable management with particular emphasis on digitalisation. The program provides opportunities for new career perspectives through international modules in Shanghai and Beijing.
The St. Gallen University provides a number of scholarships to the worthy students aspiring to full fill their academic goals. They are; Expert scholarships, Challenge scholarships, Emerging market scholarships, Women in Business scholarships, Outstanding Candidate scholarships, Early achiever scholarships, MBA Event scholarships, Additional scholarships, E-scholarships, LGBTQ scholarships and Alumni scholarships.
The Career Services are individually tailored to suit the needs of each individual MBA candidate. Career enhancing competencies are inculcated via 4 career Development Courses ; Team dynamics, Professional Development, Personal and Career development and Leadership development. Opportunities are created to network with companies, attend Company insight evenings.
In 2017 the first offer for employment was received by 54.5% of the students while still studying. Approximately 31 .8% of the graduates had received offers within 3 months of graduation and 13.6% after 3 months. The locations of employment were Switzerland with 71. 9% of the graduates, Germany with 12 .5%, Luxembourg with 6.3%, Denmark with 3.1%, India with 3.1% and Liechtenstein with 3.1%. Average basic salary was CHF 108 428 while average total compensation was CHF 121,678. The average basic salary increase after graduation was calculated as 96%. Employers were Accenture, Amazon, Aria, Boston Consulting Group, Capoo, Credit Suisse, Deloitte, DEME, to Nestle, Novartis, to Zurich insurance and many more.
